   Great story. Isn’t that a $300 fine to Ron’s Plumbing? I am sure that nothing will be done about it — nothing more than is done by the millions of people who throw their cigarette butts out car windows each day or toss them aside outside of businesses. Now that we are have restarted “festival season” in Rochester, it is worth noting:

   Although there were no bottles left behind after the 10-day Lilac Festival, and there is not as much broken glass as in prior years, the festival site south of Highland Avenue is still littered with tons of cigarette butts (hey, those filters are not biodegradable! that’s why they are flame retardent!), thousands of tiny pieces of paper, a milk crate here and there, zip ties, areas with various kinds of liquids leaked into the soil (I struggled to keep my dog from rolling in them), et cetera.

   The only things that seemed to have been picked up in the last few weeks were all of the downed branches from the various trucks that hit them loading and unloading at the beginning and end of the festival. And the “burnt over” grass came back sooner because of the rains.

   God, it sure would be nice if the County would offer some kind of strict penalties for the for-profit business that runs the festival when it year-after-year leaves Highland Park worse than it found it! The small fees that get paid to Monroe County are hardly enough for a festival that supposedly draws 500,000 people each year.
