As our Northwest area prepares for the upcoming Clean Sweep and other beautification projects, the Lyell-Otis Neighborhood Association would like to ask for your hand…
Lyell-Otis Neighborhood Association (LONA) will need extra help to clean-up and plant flowering seeds at our four area parks/playgrounds. We also want to begin to hold some musical evening events in our parks this summer: like having a small band (like a quartet, or students, perhaps) play for an hour while families/community members enjoy a picnic dinner, or even have some food trucks there as well for culinary variety!
LONA is also attempting to develop our section of the historic Erie Canal, and would love input from area young professionals who have a passion for history, and who are interested in helping establish a new business district, like a “Schoen Place” for the Westside. We are starting with a simple vision, but I have confidence that if we can get the right people on-board, this project could be truly special.
I’ve also created the Lyell Avenue Neighbors facebook page as a way to connect the many neighborhoods that all meet at Lyell Avenue.
This is a page that allows networking, and small business promotion, as well as provides for a more interactive, real-time crime stopper, neighborhood watch effort.
We encourage community members to support one another, by keeping each other – and the RPD – aware of suspicious/illegal activity, like the problem of copper piping being removed/stolen from area homes, for example, or of any attempted break-ins or stolen car incidences.
The Lyell-Otis neighborhood is ready to turn the corner to become the next coveted area for those young professionals looking to purchase a starter home, as current home prices are accessible to many. The convenient location is super – being close to stadiums, expressways, and downtown events, and the potential is great to rebuild our area in the same manner that Corn Hill was transformed just a few decades ago.
As you know, many hands make light work, so feel free to share our Facebook page with others, as that is the best way to get timely updates regarding our projects and events.
We look forward to working with you all to make improvements here in our terrific city!
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Pamela Davis
