The lack of seating at bus stops in our area is a real problem, especially for seniors and people with disabilities. This week however, <a href=\"http:\/\/reconnectrochester.org\/blog\/2014\/11\/do-it-yourself-bus-stop-seat-cube\/\" target=\"_new\">Reconnect Rochester unveiled a clever solution <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"position:relative; top:2px;\" alt=\"external link\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/icon_link.gif\" width=\"15\" heigth=\"11\" border=\"0\"><\/a> which they believe could change this picture&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"406\" height=\"228\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a6g8NKY3IfA\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The volunteers at Reconnect Rochester recently tested a prototype bus stop seat shaped like a cube at two locations: The PriceRite at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Rochester,+NY+14605\/@43.1668161,-77.590245,17z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x89d6b5bc01566c8d:0xd4c2a6250453d844\" target=\"_new\">Dewey &#038; Driving Park <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"position:relative; top:2px;\" alt=\"external link\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/icon_link.gif\" width=\"15\" heigth=\"11\" border=\"0\"><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/PriceRite\/@43.180235,-77.639994,17z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x89d6b41247801a37:0x5e33de8accb1ffa9\" target=\"_new\">N. Union St. <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"position:relative; top:2px;\" alt=\"external link\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/icon_link.gif\" width=\"15\" heigth=\"11\" border=\"0\"><\/a> at the Public Market. As the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=a6g8NKY3IfA\" target=\"_new\">video <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"position:relative; top:2px;\" alt=\"external link\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/icon_link.gif\" width=\"15\" heigth=\"11\" border=\"0\"><\/a>above shows, the results were very positive.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"This woman says her legs have a tendency to give out on her, and the CUBE is the perfect height for her - not to low to the ground.\" rel=\"lightbox-theCube\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/photos\/rochester-bus-stop-cube-seat-09.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin:4px 0px 6px 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/photos\/rochester-bus-stop-cube-seat-09.jpg\" border=\"1\" alt=\"This woman says her legs have a tendency to give out on her, and the CUBE is the perfect height for her - not to low to the ground.\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThese woman had just finished shopping and were waiting for their #10 bus when they were introduced to the CUBE seat. One of the women said that when she&#8217;s waiting for her bus, sometimes her legs give out. And she says the bus stop cube is the perfect height for her. She said many of the standard benches throughout the city are actually too low for her to get up out of easily. <\/p>\n<p><a title=\"For these RIT students a 40-minute wait for their bus was made more enjoyable because they had a place to sit and talk.\" rel=\"lightbox-theCube\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/photos\/rochester-bus-stop-cube-seat-10.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin:4px 0px 6px 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/photos\/rochester-bus-stop-cube-seat-10.jpg\" border=\"1\" alt=\"For these RIT students a 40-minute wait for their bus was made more enjoyable because they had a place to sit and talk.\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThese two students at the Public Market had just missed their bus back to RIT. A 40-minute wait for their next bus was made more enjoyable because they had a place to sit and talk.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Because of our small bus stop improvement, this woman felt like \"the system\" was actually thinking of her.\" rel=\"lightbox-theCube\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/photos\/rochester-bus-stop-cube-seat-11.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin:4px 0px 6px 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/photos\/rochester-bus-stop-cube-seat-11.jpg\" border=\"1\" alt=\"Because of our small bus stop improvement, this woman felt like \"the system\" was actually thinking of her.\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAnd this woman said she was overjoyed when she saw the little green cube seat. Because of this small improvement, she felt like &#8220;the system&#8221; was actually thinking of her.<\/p>\n<p>So what do you think?
