But five years ago on this very day, Rochester NY made national headlines when it was slammed by one of the worst food shortages in our nation&#8217;s history\u2014possibly the world. That&#8217;s right. <a href=\"http:\/\/popeyes.com\/\" target=\"_new\">Popeyes <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"position:relative; top:2px;\" alt=\"external link\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/icon_link.gif\" width=\"15\" heigth=\"11\" border=\"0\"><\/a> up on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/@43.174685,-77.629594,3a,75y,277.25h,92.35t\/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s2sIMZfpQ7YrVYQD3O5sfwA!2e0\" target=\"_new\">Lake Ave <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"position:relative; top:2px;\" alt=\"external link\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/icon_link.gif\" width=\"15\" heigth=\"11\" border=\"0\"><\/a> ran out of chicken&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a title=\"The message taped to the window at Popeyes on Lake Ave turning hungry customers away. And a seemingly innocent miscalculation turned ugly when hungry customers had to be turned away.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"406\" height=\"305\" src=\"http:\/\/www.liveleak.com\/ll_embed?f=02b52c1c6ca7\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>One outraged customer yelled back at the pre-recorded drive-thru message, &#8220;People have kids they tryin&#8217; to feed with the special and you mean to tell me we can&#8217;t feed our kids?!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Democrat and Chronicle <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democratandchronicle.com\/article\/20090422\/NEWS01\/90422023\/1002\/NEWS\" target=\"_new\">reported <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"position:relative; top:2px;\" alt=\"external link\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/icon_link.gif\" width=\"15\" heigth=\"11\" border=\"0\"><\/a> that cars filled the parking lot and spilled onto the street. \u201cIt was quite the promotion,\u201d a shift manager at a local Popeye\u2019s told the paper. \u201cIt was phenomenal. We had people trying to place multiple orders. The promotion allowed only one order per person. And you listen good.
