\nRoc City Skatepark, originally planned to be built under the interstate 490 Frederick Douglass\u2013Susan B. Anthony Memorial Bridge, now has a new location… maybe even several new locationS…<\/p>\n

\nSometime this past fall or Summer, the City of Rochester offered Genesee Crossroads Park \"external<\/a> as a new location for the skate park \"external<\/a>. According to sources close the project, the old site had some “big hurdles” to overcome and may have delayed development. Those hurdles include other new developments planned nearby, and general red tape associated with dealing with New York State Department of Transportation which owns the I-490 right of way.<\/p>\n

The City went so far as to put the new location in its Draft Center City Master Plan \"external<\/a> last month. But it was just announced that Friends of Roc City Skatepark has officially accepted the new site and will proceed with a new set of plans. <\/p>\n

In a story this morning on WXXI radio, president of Friends of Roc City Skatepark, Jim Maddison said if the Genesee Crossroads site is successful, new smaller skateparks could be built all around the city at schools and other recreational sites. The WXXI story also reported that the Genesee Crossroads park would be the largest skatepark in the country when completed.
