[IMAGE: Chris Seward]\" width=\"406\" border=\"1\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n&#8220;It&#8217;s one of the eeriest, strangest places I&#8217;ve ever been.&#8221; That&#8217;s what Chris Seward said of this little known spot on the University of Rochester campus when he took these photos. The <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?q=university+of+rochester&amp;ll=43.130524,-77.62694&amp;spn=0.001096,0.002307&amp;client=safari&amp;oe=UTF-8&amp;fb=1&amp;gl=us&amp;hq=university+of+rochester&amp;cid=0,0,2086147697694781728&amp;t=h&amp;z=19\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">Merle Spurrier Gymnasium <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"position: relative; top: 2px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/icon_link.gif\" alt=\"external link\" width=\"15\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a> opened in 1955 as part of a women\u2019s center and the Susan B. Anthony women\u2019s dormitory. Spurrier housed this 25-yard-long, six lane swimming pool. According to a 2004 Campus Times <a href=\"http:\/\/www.campustimes.org\/2004\/03\/25\/is-there-really-a-pool-somewhere-in-spurrier-gymnasium\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">article <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"position: relative; top: 2px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rochestersubway.com\/images\/icon_link.gif\" alt=\"external link\" width=\"15\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>, the pool has been closed ever since the women\u2019s gym facilities were moved to the Robert B. Goergen Athletic Center in 1982&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a title=\"After the gym facilities were moved to Robert B. Click the &#8220;fullscreen&#8221; button and give it a whirl. Tony tells me those lights inside the pool were actually reclaimed search lights from WWII. The pool deck has also been used as a home for props from Strong Auditorium. Even suffragettes enjoy a refreshing dip now and again.<\/p>\n<p><b>UPDATE:<\/b> I&#8217;m getting a lot of people asking if this pool is still there. Yes. Still there. And everyone I&#8217;ve spoken to says it&#8217;s in the same condition.
