Rochester\u2019s Southeast Quadrant will take part in Community Solar NY, a program designed to make investing in solar power easier and more affordable for local residents and businesses. The Solarize Flower City program kicks off with neighborhood workshops starting in May, where residents and business owners can learn about the program…<\/p>\n

\"Solarize<\/a>
\nCommunity Solar NY makes implementing solar easier and more affordable by supporting locally-organized community outreach aimed at getting a critical mass of area homes and businesses to install solar and obtain competitive pricing, thereby lowering the cost. Historically, Solarize campaigns lower the cost of solar 10 to 20 percent.<\/p>\n

Solarize Flower City will select designated solar installers using a thorough pre-qualification process. Residents and businesses who sign up for solar installations by the deadline for their neighborhood can take advantage of group rates below market prices. The more customers who sign up, the lower the price will be for everyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cSolarize programs offer enormous opportunity for education and awareness-building in the community, which gives people the ability to choose solar technology for their energy needs,” says Dr. Susan Spencer, ROCSPOT \"external<\/a>President and Founder of Solarize the Flower City. “This directly addresses energy poverty and builds a community\u2019s economic potential.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"NY-Sun<\/a>
\nSolarize Flower City is supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) \"external<\/a> under Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s NY-Sun \"external<\/a> initiative. NY-Sun will invest up to $1 billion in solar power through 2023 to significantly expand solar installations across the State, ultimately transforming New York\u2019s solar industry to become self-sustaining. <\/p>\n

Neighborhood residents and businesses owners who are interested in learning more about Solarize Flower City are urged to attend the workshops for their neighborhoods, starting in May. The program is a partnership of the City of Rochester, ROCSPOT, and NeighborWorks Rochester.<\/p>\n
