From local development to just plain news of the weird, here are your RocLinks for this past week (and WOW, what a week for development here in Rochester)…<\/p>\n

Charlotte Street \u2013 Full Circle<\/h3>\n

\"Proposed<\/a>
\nYou may remember when we took a look<\/a> at the large, former brownfield on Charlotte St. Well the team of Home Leasing and SWBR won the RFP \"external<\/a> and will be building 72 apartments and 14 townhouses starting this summer. The project is officially called Charlotte Square and you can see the renderings here \"external<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Take Me to Church<\/h3>\n

In a move someone smarter than me must have seen coming, the Rochester Lyric Opera (as opposed to those clowns at the Rochester Instrumental Opera) purchased the church \"external<\/a> at 440 East Avenue with plans to convert it to a new 900 seat theater. The building was formerly the First Church of Christ, Scientist.<\/p>\n

East End Cometh<\/h3>\n

If you like the East End, but Charlotte Square isn’t your thing and you’d prefer a building with some patina, have we got a deal for you. DHD Ventures announced that \"external<\/a> they will be converting 6 vacant floors of 50 Chestnut Street into about 75 apartments.<\/p>\n

I Like to Watch<\/h3>\n

\"The<\/a>
\nAs if the Midtown Rising webcam\"external<\/a> weren’t enough action for a construction voyeur, the city has now also posted an Inner Loop filling webcam\"external<\/a> as well. This is your golden opportunity to watch dirt be pushed around for the next 2 years.<\/p>\n

The Future of Development<\/h3>\n

On the horizon, the state also committed funds \"external<\/a> for brownfield cleanups on two ‘sites’ in Rochester. One of these ‘sites’ is the better part of all of Rochester around Lyell, Lake, and State (some 600+ acres, in fact), and while not specified, probably includes Sykes<\/a>. The other site is the long under-utilized Vacuum Oil site, which since gaining direct pedestrian access to UofR is probably due to at least be turned into a parking lot.<\/p>\n

Veggies for Wedgies<\/h3>\n

\"The<\/a>
\nFinally, the South Wedge Farmer’s Market is moving to a new site along the river \u2013 Genesee Crossroads Park (151 Mt. Hope Ave). No word yet on what will become of the parking lot on Alexander Street \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n
