Here’s an interesting video we stumbled upon while diddling around on YouTube this weekend. This 7 and a half minute long interpretive dance exploration of the Rochester subway tunnel will totally blow your mind. Grab some popcorn and roll film…

Holy smokes, who was that girl? Who ever it was, she totally just kicked the subway’s ass. I think I’m in love.

The film, called Infiltration was shot in April 2010 by Carl Wiedemann for Breakbone DanceCo.

The artist, Atalee Judy (Chicago, IL.) combines her experiences in martial arts, 1980s punk rock, and performance art into a unique blend of dance and storytelling. The abandoned subway tunnel plays a bit more than a supporting role as Atalee seems to fight her way through the mystifying space.

According to her website, Judy sees dance as much more than just a “pretty” art form. She seeks to connect to an emotional experience embodied through her choreography and movement. Judy believes “art can be a catalyst for overcoming fear, and can inspire change for both artist and viewer.”

I am changed.

In addition to Rochester’s subway tunnel, Breakbone dance company has also explored other beautifully strange places including Chicago’s old Fulton Market Meat Packing District (above), old apartment buildings , and also random piles of rubble .
