This week’s photo takes us back to March 21, 1976. That’s glam rock legend David Bowie (center) being arrested on drug charges by undercover cops at the Americana Rochester Hotel on State Street after a concert at the War Memorial. This rare “behind the scenes photo” was passed among the RPD for decades and this week a copy of it found it’s way onto eBay for an asking price of ~~$25,000~~ $20,000. Midtown Redux

As you may know Midtown Tower is being redeveloped by Buckingham (and Morgan) into some apartments. This week they closed on the final loan to complete the project. Also, bids are in for Parcel 5, and they’re a little lightweight.

Feed Me Seymour

Did you know Harts isn’t the only small local grocer in the area? Can the market thrive despite the local love-in for Wegmans? Small and local events could do the trick (and you should go Sunday to try the new sauces).

At the Movies

Unbeknownst to us rubes are RocLinks, Kodak still makes film. Not only that, but they just signed a deal to keep making a ton of the stuff so Michael Bay has an ongoing medium for blow things up. You’re welcome, Rochester.

Chicken and Waffles…

…a dish I’ve long lamented not being able to consume regularly and with aplomb in Rochester. Well NO MORE! Get a load of this , everyone. Even better, it’s conveniently located in the 19th Ward.

Can you believe I used the heading ‘Feed Me Seymour’ without even KNOWING that Geva is currently running Little Shop of Horrors? It’s a sign. You should go.

Just read the Midtown Redux and I must say that I’m disappointed that it looks like The Grove at Midtown won’t happen. That would have changed the face of downtown. I feel like everything else will just be lackluster. Do you think that we could rally the support of the community to bring back The Grove concept? There is no reason that Rochester shouldn’t have something that nice

I liked it too, but it seems to have fallen victim to the loss of Mr. Glazer. I don’t believe there’s any other firm in Rochester with that kind of vision or execution to make such a project happen. Even Mark IV, who I like, would probably not be able to execute quite the way it was shown. That said, with the final renderings of Midtown Tower, value engineering continues to rear its ugly head, even with the best projects in town. I do really hope someone in Rochester will be able to fill the void. And while I’d love to be the guy, I have a long long way to go (or am a lottery win away, I suppose… I’d make for an eccentric millionaire).

Matt, I’m right there with you. I definitely don’t have the means right now, but one way or the other I want to make an impact on Rochester too. Rochester already has the assets. We just need to get more companies interested in moving here or starting their business here, more people interested in living here, and more tourists heading over to our city.
