Rochester’s airwaves are on the brink of some exciting changes. WAYO 104.3 FM is a new non-commercial, low-power community radio station with expansive musical and cultural programming, emphasizing creative freedom, diversity, and community engagement…
Since its inception in 2012, WAYO has established affiliation with the Multi-Use Community Cultural Center (MuCCC), received FCC approval to broadcast, secured studio space and a broadcast tower in the city, and launched a dynamic web presence (Follow WAYO on Facebook ). The station is on track to begin broadcasting over the air and streaming online in December of this year.
WAYO now seeks public support to bring the dream to the radio dial. On Wednesday August 20 at 10:43 am, WAYO launches
a $50,000 Indiegogo campaign to raise funding for equipment and the first year of operations. Contributions can be made here .
Donations of any amount are welcome. Donors can choose from unique, exclusive thank-you perks including a sticker, pin, t-shirt, a 7” record, mix CDs compiled by local and national figures with Rochester connections, and original artwork by over twenty Rochester-based artists.
To celebrate the campaign’s launch (and to wish WAYO good luck!) the public is invited to Good Luck (50 Anderson Avenue 14607 ) on Wednesday August 20, 7-9pm.
