  1. Matthew Denker says:

First, This is a great idea.

Second, this is across the street from some of my best friends in Rochester. You’ll have great neighbors.

Third, move here, you’ll love it. It’s more walkable than almost anywhere else in the city and a third or a quarter of the price of being on the other side of the railroad tracks for no good reason.

Finally, can I recommend higher quality photos for the next one of these posts? It really makes a huge difference with a place looking like it sprung from the pages of dwell. And please, God, floor plans. Always floor plans. And maybe do the new homeowners a small favor by giving them the floor plan so they can someday use it to sell the house too. It’s a little thing, but just a great touch.

In any event, I hope we get to see more of these in the future.

  2. Great feedback. Thanks Mr. Denker!

  3. Charles says:

and for everybody else here who’s not looking for a home or trying to be sold…

  4. Is there a second part to that comment?

  5. Christopher Brandt says:

So, just because I wasn’t getting any discussion on the facebook I will post my thoughts here…

Has any thought been put toward the perception of using RochesterSubway as a biased platform of selling only the houses listed by this particular reader? Why would you want to have a direct knockoff of City Newspaper’s Homework Column…which celebrates great old houses and city living, while not catering to one specific realtor?

I wonder what Landmark Society and City Newspaper would think of this? They’ve only been doing same this for over 20 years.

  6. Christopher,
I’ll admit, maybe the wording of the first paragraph is misleading, but to be clear, this is NOT an exclusive arrangement between RochesterSubway.com and this ONE realtor.

Rich Tyson offered to submit posts that feature city homes for sale with a write up about the neighborhoods they are in. I am not excluding anyone else who wishes to do the same.

If you’ve followed this blog for a while you probably know I do not refuse guest posts (unless they are off topic or really worthless). So I’ll say this… if you or an other realtor would like to submit a story about a house or a neighborhood or whatever, as long as it’s related to Rochester in some way, I will happily post it.

What the Landmark Society does in City Newspaper is a fantastic. This is not meant to be an imitation or “knock-off” of that. But I feel what Rich Tyson has done here is valuable too. This is a real home, not a perfect specimen by any means, and it needs a buyer. This city has plenty of homes that need families living in them. Do you really think Landmark Society would be offended by this?

So no… I don’t care at all about perception. And I don’t care who brings an article to me. I have no signed contract with any one realtor. I hope Rich Tyson sells this home and a thousand more. And I’d welcome more realtors (and individual home owners) to submit their properties too.

  7. BTW, I have updated the first paragraph of this post.

  8. jimmy says:

I know the owner of this house, and he had no clue that it was posted to RochesterSubway.

  9. Rich Tyson says:

I feel that I need to jump in and explain exactly what the purpose was with this article, and hopefully the many more to come. I wanted to offer a focused look at what life is like in particular neighborhoods within the city and what the average cost of entry into home ownership would be. This is by no means a rip off or some stolen idea.

Rochestersubway.com offers unique insights into the Rochester community and this is yet another perspective on it. With regards to the homeowner not knowing that this particular home was used in the article, I spoke to the listing agent and offered to essentially promote this listing as I had viewed it a few days prior and it is a very fine example of what $100k can buy you in the neighborhood.

I would be surprised if someone looking to sell a home would be at all concerned about having extra attention brought to their listing. Notice, I didn’t even use one of my own listings for the article so this isn’t some self serving approach.

A lot of effort and thought went into this article, as will with any following pieces. I hope that more folks enjoyed this I and look forward to teaming up with Rochestersubway.com again.
