There is literally a blog for everything. Don’t believe me? Pick three completely random things… let’s say… Tom Selleck, waterfalls and sandwiches. YES, there’s a blog for that . But what if you’re a fan of Tom Selleck, waterfalls, sandwiches, and Rochester NY? Thankfully, there’s RochesterSubway.com.
If you’ve enjoyed flipping thru these pages with me over the past 12 months or longer, why not show your support by voting for RochesterSubway.com in the CITY Newspaper’s Best Of Rochester 2012 Reader’s Poll ? (Vote “RochesterSubway.com for line #66: “Best Blog”)
And if you’re a newcomer to the Subway (or you’re just nostalgic like me), let’s take a look back at the most popular stories we dug up over the past 12 months…
Past 12 Months in Review…
We rediscovered this story about a 100 year old train wreck about 20 miles east of Rochester.
Plans for Irondequoit Square were posted on RocSubway before it was covered by the local media.
The Inner Loop was prematurely declared dead.
A ghostly glowing orb in the subway tunnel was captured on camera… and promptly debunked by readers.
Ken Burns inspired us to learn about Prohibition in Rochester.
One month later, RocSubway broke the news of Genesee Brewery’s planned visitor center and the demolition of the historic Cataract Brewhouse. And we imagined Rochester’s Historic Brewery Square.
We cranked up the radio and took a Drive thru Rochester.
We learned about one of the greatest speeches in American history; delivered right here in Rochester.
And we held our collective breath as Lego man voyaged into space for the first time; narrowly missing a Rochester landing.
We asked a fairly obvious question, and answered it with a hit-me-over-the-head graphic: Does Rochester Have a Parking Problem?
RocSubway teamed up with Landmark Society and photographer Richard Margolis to create Rochester’s Eyesore to Opportunities series.
This spring we discovered a mobile recording studio cruising the streets of R-O-C. And we helped give new life to 2nd Chance Park community garden.
We spent a few minutes with Rochester’s roadside guitar guy (Dave) who played us a ditty.
This summer we got excited about ROC Transit Day & guerilla wayfinding signs, secret sidewalks, implosions, and jigsaw puzzles.
And somehow we found time to pick a fight with the Mayor .
Now THAT’S blogging.
To vote RochesterSubway.com for Best Local Blog of 2012, simply fill out City Newspaper’s Final Ballot
