I received a message yesterday from a RocSubway reader named Rick U. Rick wanted to share some of his images from Genesee Brewery’s (aka North American Brewery’s) demolition of the once historic Cataract Brewhouse. By now I’ve seen just about all I can stomach of this disaster. I mean, this is how we create jobs in Rochester? Building parking lots on historic buildings? Great to look back at these pictures of the removal of crumbling useless eyesore and to see now a full parking lot of cars that have come to see and partake in what the real historical significance of the site is a fantastic welcome to the history of Rochester’s brewing tradition that harks back to the building of the Erie canal, and the wave of immigration from Germany. How wrong so many can be! Look to the item above and solve the next sign of deterioration ! Eat crow!!!!!

The Wehle family were originally bakers and their horse drawn wagons plied the streets of Rochester. Whele knew a lot about yeasts, so he turned his talents to brewing beer. Thus Genesee brewery was born!

As a bartender in Rochester, Genesee brewery would deliver a case (24 bottles) of beer to my home every Christmas as a good will project. Standard brewery gave the same gift, but you had to pick it up at the brewery. Welcome gifts!
