Check this out. This photo is for real – absolutely no Photoshop involved here. You’re looking at the Kodak building to the right, and smack dab in the middle of the big bad City of Rochester… grazing deer. I’ve heard of Urban Greening before but come on.
I snapped the above shot tonight—probably 8:30pm or so—as I was heading home after a very fun trip on the Mary Jemisonriver boat with Rochester Young Professionals
. And just three blocks south of where this scene unfolded is the urban jungle below…
My guess is the 3 little guys (or gals) followed the Genesee River gorge from the north. They’ll probably head back tonight after dining downtown. Who knows, maybe they’ll take the #1 Lake Ave bus.

When I worked in the southern end of the the park in 2000 there was a flock of maybe 30 inside the fence. Unfortunately, I had to cut my lunch walks short because they would approach me for handouts if I walked on the perimeter road. I figure some security would feed them from their truck, but that really isn’t safe if you are walking. I know that deer were fed hay bales in the winter so that they didn’t outright starve. The deer were not shy.
