All I can say is… holy smokes! The woman in this surveillance video narrowly escaped death last Friday night when she fell in front of an oncoming subway train at Boston’s North Station. The driver of the train, who pulled the emergency brake stopping the train just inches away from the woman on the tracks, is now being called a hero by many.

According to reports, the woman was trying to put out a cigarette when she tumbled off the platform and onto the tracks. Although several people can be seen in the video frantically waving at the driver to stop the train, it was actually a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority employee, Jacqueline Osorio who should be credited with saving the woman’s life. Osorio witnessed the fall from her position on the platform and radioed the train’s driver, Charice Lewis.

The woman is said to have suffered some minor scrapes and bruises and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Officials are not releasing her name, but say she told authorities she’d been drinking. …oh really?

Both Lewis and Osorio received commendations from Massachusetts’ top officials, state Transportation Secretary Jeffrey Mullan and Gov. Deval Patrick.
